Description

The following description is derived from Working Materials by I. Weisband (1986), translated by D. Lytov and edited by L. Kamensky (2002). It represents one classical perspective on the LII type.

"I think, therefore I am." The LII is a person of developed logical faculty and a strong capability for analysis. They know how to dig to the essence of things, to reveal their internal structure. Carl Gustav Jung — himself an LII — drew the underlying basics of the functional typology that became the foundation of Socionics.

"Providence has created me for quiet study work, to which it dedicated all the rapture of my soul", said Thomas Jefferson, during whose presidency the territory of the US nearly doubled. The LII considers all situations in life from the logical viewpoint.

"Justice is my trade." This is a type of revolutionary or political conspirator. In conflict they typically organise a committee to punish the offender. They believe that everything in the world must be logical and therefore just — and are capable of neglecting their own profit and safety when defending the wronged.

They set themselves very high requirements. Unless someone else takes care of them, they can easily drive themselves to neglect basic needs. Garibaldi, Robespierre, Dzerzhinsky, Jefferson — revolutionaries who devoted themselves entirely to an idea.

Ascetic. The LII appears extremely uncompromising, often looking down with a piercing look from under a philosopher's forehead. They toughen themselves, training for cold, hunger, loss, and the disapproval of others.

The one area where they willingly defer to their partner is dress, taste, and routine chores. Having to take responsibility for these things irritates them; they often do not notice the quality of their own clothing. They do not tolerate being ordered about.

Their dual, the ESE, seems to know this instinctively — they draw the LII into work not by direct command but by beginning to fuss about, making many unnecessary movements. The LII then gets involved, and the work proceeds rapidly, logically, and soundly. The LII themselves shows little initiative and tends to be reclusive and quiet.

Somewhat tender and capricious. Their self-sacrifice in defending justice becomes especially striking once one knows that they are also irritated by everything that disturbs their silence and measured way of life. They are very concerned about their health. Descartes considered health "the principal of mortal goods, second only to Truth."

In youth the LII often tends toward a cheerful lifestyle — many friends, games of chance, revelry. Later they conclude that none of those things were what they actually needed.

Not very ambitious, yet they cannot tolerate others advancing ahead of them in a career — out of the same feeling of justice. They find themselves in a particularly difficult situation when required to obey a superior they do not respect.

Secretive. "He led a happy life who sheltered himself well." The LII dislikes uninvited visitors and reacts sharply to reprimands, sometimes hiding their irritation behind an artificial smile.
