The relations guide
The 16 Intertype Relations
A quick reference guide
Every type in Socionics stands in a specific structural relationship with every other type, and the position of the eight functions in Model A is what decides which. This guide takes each relation in turn: what the structure is, the dynamic it produces, and one line you can hold onto about how it tends to go.
It is a longer read than the cards below and a shorter one than a book. For a while it was what this site sent out by email; it is now simply a download.
- An introduction to the three categories the relations fall into — inner-quadra symmetric, outer-quadra symmetric and outer-quadra asymmetric
- All 16 relations across fourteen entries, from Duality to Conflict, each with a verdict from "most complementary" to "most difficult". Supervision and Benefaction are described from both sides
- Four structural properties per relation: heteroverted or monoverted, symmetric or asymmetric, energy- or information-based, and psychological distance
One-page reference cards
A single sheet each, for printing or keeping on a phone. Nothing here needs reading in order.
16 Types

16 Relations
All 16 intertype relations with description, symmetry type and quadra scope — colour-coded by relation.
Four Quadras
All four quadras with their types, dual pairs, shared values and intra-quadra relations at a glance.
The three reference cards are free to use and share — please credit socionicsinsight.com. The relations guide is drawn from Your Social World Explained and is for personal use rather than redistribution: link people to this page and they can take their own copy, on the same terms you did.
A different book from the guide above, and a much longer one: 76 pages, around 16,500 words, on using Socionics to make sense of communication, attraction and conflict — with a three-cycle mapping worksheet and a timing, requests and boundaries checklist. This is the one that arrives by email rather than as a direct download.
The full profile of your type from the second edition, plus the chapter on Duality, in the book's full-colour layout. Choose your type and it is emailed to you, with a direct download on the page as well.
The cards and the relations guide are for reference. The practical guides deal with particular situations, for when a reference is not what the moment needs. Browse the practical guides →
