The EIE leads with extraverted ethics (Fe) and the IEE leads with extraverted intuition (Ne). Both are extraverted, both are warm, both are genuinely oriented toward people and both can fill a room with energy and engagement. The Quasi-identity relation describes pairs that share significant surface similarity while diverging structurally in their functional priorities.
Common friction points
The EIE can find the IEE somewhat insufficiently serious: warm and genuinely caring, but not reaching the depth of feeling and ethical weight the EIE considers essential. The IEE can find the EIE somewhat pressured: emotionally vivid and clearly principled, but creating a weight in the atmosphere the IEE's lighter, more exploratory mode struggles to sustain.
Quasi-identity pairs tend to remain genuinely cordial, since the surface similarity keeps interactions warm, while experiencing a persistent background sense that the other person is approaching shared territory through a subtly incompatible instrument.
Where each type's functions land
Quasi-identity has a distinctive shape in Model A: each type's strong functions sit in the other's unvalued positions. The EIE's Fe is the IEE's Demonstrative Fe and the EIE's Ni is the IEE's Ignoring Ni. The IEE can do both perfectly well, which is why the EIE's mode looks familiar, but values neither, so the EIE's intensity and forecasting register as something the IEE could do and chooses not to. The same holds in reverse: the IEE's Ne is the EIE's Demonstrative Ne and the IEE's Fi is the EIE's Ignoring Fi. The EIE recognises the IEE's possibility-spotting and quiet moral judgements, and sets them aside.
The needs do not meet either. The EIE's Suggestive Ti is the IEE's Vulnerable Ti, and the IEE's Suggestive Si is the EIE's Vulnerable Si. What each most wants from outside, the EIE a calm logical framework and the IEE practical comfort and physical ease, is what the other finds hardest to offer. Neither is withholding anything; each is reaching for help in the one area where the other is least equipped.
This is why the pair tends to feel companionable without feeling supported. Conversations flow because each can follow the other's strengths, but when either is tired or under pressure, the other rarely has the thing that would help. Knowing this in advance tends to take the sting out of it: the EIE can look elsewhere for structure, the IEE elsewhere for comfort, and the friendship is not asked to do a job it was never shaped for.
