Socionics describes what happens between two people. A team, a household or a group of friends is a set of pairs all running at once, and the shape that makes is not obvious from a list of types. Add up to eight people below and this works out every pair between them: which the theory expects to run easily, which will take effort, who sits at the centre of it, and how the group divides by quadra and club.

Quadra is the set of values a type shares with three others; club is the kind of work it gravitates towards. A group weighted heavily into one of either is not a problem, but it is a blind spot worth knowing about.

The pairs in one of the relations this site files as difficult. This is not a prediction that two people will fall out. It says the friction has a structure, and that naming the structure is usually more use than putting the friction down to personality.

Whoever holds the most supportive relations with the rest of the group. Not the leader and not the best liked, just the person the theory puts in easy contact with the largest number of others.

Every pair is looked up in the intertype relations matrix, the table that gives the relation between any two of the sixteen types. Nothing is scored and nothing is averaged: the colour of a line is just where that relation sits on the intertype relations hub, which sets all sixteen out in order from Duality to Conflict.
Four of the sixteen do not read the same way from both ends. Benefaction and Supervision put the two people in different positions, so those pairs are given twice, once from each side, rather than flattened into one label. Two things worth saying plainly. The map is only as good as the types you put into it, and if you are unsure of someone's the socionics test and the small group finder are two independent ways to narrow it down. And a relation is a structural tendency, not a verdict on two particular people. Plenty of groups work well across their difficult pairings, usually because somebody worked out where the friction was coming from.
