The IEE-ENFp Psychologist is the SLI-ISTp Craftsman's dual — a type defined by restless extroverted intuition, an instinctive orientation toward possibility over precedent, and a relationship with the physical world that is experimental rather than careful. Where the SLI reads the immediate environment with precision and works within it, the IEE scans for what the environment could become, and acts accordingly. Few characters make this orientation as visible as Chev Chelios.
Chev Chelios — Crank
Chelios has been injected with a synthetic poison that will kill him if his adrenaline drops. The entire film is the consequence of that premise — and what makes it a useful type study is that Chelios does not respond to the situation with fear, strategy, or despair. He responds with improvisation. Each scene presents a new problem and he solves it in real time, using whatever the immediate environment offers, without pausing to assess whether the solution is sensible or safe.
This is the IEE's leading function — Extroverted Intuition — operating under maximum pressure. The type's natural mode is associative and experimental: possibilities are perceived before consequences, and the drive to act on a new angle overrides the caution that other types would apply. Chelios does not use himself as a guinea pig because he is reckless. He does it because in the moment, with the constraints he has, it is the solution that presents itself most vividly. Strong Ne types navigate chaos by finding angles within it that others cannot see.
His communication style is passionate — expressive, direct, and emotionally present even in the most extreme circumstances. His erotic attitude is infantile in the Socionics sense: his interpersonal needs are unguarded and immediate, and the relationship with his partner Eve is characterised by a directness that bypasses social convention entirely. He does not manage how he comes across. He simply responds.
The fourth function — the PoLR, or point of least resistance — for the IEE is Introverted Logic: the function concerned with building coherent internal frameworks, structural consistency, and the systematic analysis of how things fit together logically. Chelios does not do this. He does not construct a plan, derive a procedure, or reason from first principles toward a solution. He reacts. Every decision in the film is made in real time from the immediate situation, not from a logical structure built in advance. The film's premise is effectively a literalisation of what happens when a type with no access to structured internal reasoning is forced to operate without any external framework to rely on either — pure improvisation, all the way down.
